Almost all beginning artists struggle with the simple technique of learning “to draw what you see”.  It doesn’t matter whether you paint from a photograph, your imagination or life itself, you can often struggle to work out the structure of what you are looking at and how to draw it.

You may think children as young as 9 years old may not be able to draw realistic portraits of people.  Sounds impossible doesn’t it?  However, strange as it may seem, there are basic techniques which children can quickly get the hang of and be producing great portraits in no time.

Tara Scott has written an article outlining basic drawing techniques and  materials your child can use to draw a realistic portrait within two hours.  This is without having had any previous drawing lessons from an instructor, or ever picking up a drawing pencil and sketching paper.
