Online art school? Internet art lessons? Art institute online? Twenty years ago, who would have thought it.
These days, with the majority of people living of hectic, busy lives, there is often little or no time left to squeeze in those highly sought after painting and drawing classes or that fine art course.
With the advent of the internet, a wealth of convenient learning opportunities has opened up, and never before has it been so easy to study art via the internet, right in the comfort of your own home.
Aspiring art students have plenty to choose from the wide array of online art courses which have become available over the past few years. Time-starved students can enrol in art school online. Many conventional distance learning institutions offer art courses and programs in visual arts. This would earn the artist a recognised diploma or certificate in art, which can be used as credit for further study, or as industry-recognised qualifications for obtaining work.
Less formal art classes online and self-study programs are also available, offering live online workshops and innovative techniques which are interactive and immediate.
The particular online art program an artist chooses depends entirely on the artist’s desired outcome and preferred learning style. Developing art skills online is now a reality, and one which is fast becoming mainstream.
For those who are not computer-savvy, “online” is a general phrase which refers to the accessing of information via the internet.
What is the internet? Meaning literally “network of networks” , the “Internet” is a catch-all word used to describe the massive world-wide network of computers. It comprises thousands of smaller regional networks scattered throughout the globe.
In the mid-1990s the internet finally entered most educational institutions and became genuinely accessible to all. Many students including those studying art, immediately mounted home pages, published electronic articles and sought funds for online projects.
There is no doubt that the internet has revolutionised access to information at art institutes and schools and provided a new and convenient way of learning. Some of the advantages of learning art online include:
- Ability to conduct all class activities from any location in the world with only a standard web browser.
- Quick access to course material online
- Students can learn at their own pace
- Student can choose their own personal method of learning
